Training the next generation of health care professionals: A Montfort baby’s story

“In addition to being born at Montfort, this is where my family and I have always received our health services. After graduating from high school, I worked at Montfort for several years as an aide in the Nutrition Department and at the Family Birthing Centre. That’s when I got the urge to go back to school to become a registered practical nurse.

For me, Montfort is like a second home. It’s one of the reasons why I applied for a clinical excellence scholarship for Francophone nursing consolidation placement. Of course, there were several other reasons why I chose to return to Montfort, including the opportunity to work in French, which few other hospitals could offer me, the core values, the endless learning opportunities and the fact that I could be closer to my family.

Montfort’s values are very dear to my heart. Every day, whether in my personal or professional life, I try to live those values.

When I care for my patients, I always try to put myself in their shoes and to involve them in their care planning. For me, this gesture represents well the values of compassion and respect. As a student, I am constantly striving to surpass myself by increasing my knowledge, which for me represents excellence. I live the value of mutual support by always being available to help both my colleagues and my patients. With respect to the value of accountability, I recognize my limitations as a student and as soon as I feel that my tasks exceed my knowledge, I never hesitate to seek help from my mentor or colleagues.

In closing, I would like to thank Montfort for welcoming me during my consolidation internship and the Montfort Foundation for granting me a scholarship, which will allow me to focus even more on my studies.

I consider myself particularly fortunate to be able to say that I too am part of the Montfort family.”
