“To the summit for Montfort” – A decade later

Ten years ago, a team of 23 professionals and leaders from the national capital region were reaching the summit of Africa’s most impressive mountain—Kilimanjaro—located at 5,895 meters above sea level.

As you would likely agree, reaching such an objective represents quite a feat in a life story. In the case of the 23 climbers, it represents two feats. In addition to allowing them to make one of their most ambitious dreams a reality, this grand adventure was also a fundraising event for Montfort.

“To the summit for Montfort” had raised more than $734,000, giving the hospital the funds required to purchase a digital mammography system for the breast cancer screening of a larger number of women.

Since it was put into service, the staff at Montfort’s cancer care programs has performed more than 99,000 screening examinations. This represents an increase of 42.8 per cent in the number of examinations performed at the hospital.

In addition, the system can detect tumours the size of a grain of sand, which allows for early diagnoses that help save lives and promote a quicker recovery for women with breast cancer.

As you can see, the system has been worth its weight in gold over the last decade and will continue to do so in the future.

We take advantage of this opportunity to offer our most sincere thanks to the 23 climbers for their solidarity and precious contribution to improving the health and well-being of the patients and families receiving care at this academic organization that is Montfort.
